This is one of the socks in our Adinkra Collection. Adinkra symbols are widespread throughout Ghana. They are representations of beliefs and ideals held by the Asante (also known as Ashanti) people of Ghana. These symbols have historical and philosophical significance and were originally printed on cloth which Asante royals wore on important occasions. Since its origins of appearing on cloth, adinkra symbols are now often seen on sculptures, buildings, and furniture, among others.

GYE NYAME

Symbolic Meaning: Expresses the supremacy and omnipotence of God

This is arguably the most popular Adinkra symbol. It is an indication of Ghanaian’s faith and their recognition of God’s involvement in all aspects of life.

The Gye Nyame recognizes the existence of a higher being and wearing these socks is a reminder of this.
