African Inspired Ornament – Wisdom

This colorful African inspired ornament is perfect for Christmas or Kwanzaa. It is comprised of two layers of 1/8” MDF hardboard, is painted in Pan African colors and comes with a satin bow, beads, and a hanging cord.

These ornaments are made to order, so if you wish to have a different color scheme, or do not want them painted, please let me know.

Adinkra symbols are widespread throughout Ghana. They are representations of beliefs and ideals held by the Asante (also known as Ashanti) people of Ghana. These symbols have historical and philosophical significance and were originally printed on cloth which Asante royals wore on important occasions. Since its origins of appearing on cloth, adinkra symbols are now often seen on sculptures, buildings, and furniture, among others. Each symbol represents a unique value and is used in giving advice and imparting morals.

The implied meaning of the phrase "mate masie" is "I understand". Understanding means wisdom and knowledge, but it also represents the prudence of taking into consideration what another person has said.
